Eat to train! Learn the importance of planning nutrition to support energy needs and achieve performance goals. Specific nutrition recommendations and case studies are presented to illustrate how to use Bob’s nutrition periodization principles in each training cycle to elicit positive physiological responses. Bob also discusses nutrition as it relates to overtraining, immune system depression, glycemic response, inflammation and the use of supplements. Nutrition periodization can be used easily with recreational as well as elite athletes.
Course Objectives: Define and explain the concept of nutrition periodization. Explain physical periodization and its specific cycles. Apply nutrition periodization to each of the three physical training cycles. Describe overtraining and its signs and symptoms. Describe energy composition of the three macronutrients. Make quantitative nutrition periodization recommendations for each training cycle. Make qualitative nutrition periodization recommendations for each training cycle. Explain how to combine food to promote a stable blood sugar response. Discuss which nutrients to consume before, during, and after exercise. Understand the different components of the energy balance equation. Describe the phases of the Stages of Change model of behavior change. Discuss the safety, legality, efficacy, and contamination issues of nutrition supplements. Describe the principles of dehydration, hyponatremia, immune system depression, glycemic response, and inflammation.Also available as a printed course. |
