Strengthening the core in water requires unique teaching strategies. Pauline leads you through a complete analysis of core anatomy and muscle isolation, distinguishes the differences in the way the body responds to exercise on land and in the water, demonstrates equipment placement and reviews safety considerations. You’ll have all the tools to immediately apply these activities in your water exercise classes.
Course Objectives: Identify the primary muscles of the core, their location, origin, and insertion points.Understand the movements performed by these muscles from an anatomical perspective.Explain how the force of gravity affects muscle activation.Demonstrate how to re-position the body to contract the core muscles against a resistance.Identify the five landmarks that define neural postural alignment; identify the pelvic tilts.Differentiate between hip flexion and spinal flexion.Explain how the body can be compromised when setting positions for core strengthening—both with and without equipment.
Provide at least 20 safe and effective exercises for core strengthening.Discuss the importance of core stabilization, and how the core stabilizers are active 100% of the time in the water.Demonstrate stretches for the core muscles. |
