Linda Houtkooper Ph.D., R.D., is a Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, a Registered Dietitian and an Associate Director for the Arizona Cooperative Extension system at the University of Arizona. Dr. Houtkooper’s research and educational focuses are nutrition and physical activity for health and wellness, osteoporosis prevention, and improving sports performance. She has presented lectures, workshops, and seminars for various professional associations; Olympic, collegiate, professional and recreational athletes; at Nutrition and Sports Medicine Conferences at the international, national and state levels. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, and the American Dietetics Association. Dr. Houtkooper is also a member of the editorial board for the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism and the American College of Sports Medicine Health and Fitness Journal.
Dr. Houtkooper has extensive experience co-directing large research studies focused on investigating how progressive resistance exercise and nutrition affect bone health and weight loss. These studies include the Bone Estrogen and Strength Training (BEST) study and Healthy Weight for Life. She has also directed the nutrition component of the Combined Events Athlete Development program, sponsored by USA Track & Field. In addition, Dr. Houtkooper has extensive experience with educational resource development, having authored numerous publications and more than 10 instructional manuals.
