Scott Going, Ph.D., received his doctoral degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Illinois in 1985. He joined the faculty at the University of Arizona in the same year and has taught classes in Exercise and Sport Sciences, Physiological Sciences, and Nutritional Sciences. He is currently an Associate Professor in Nutritional Sciences with adjunct appointments in the College of Medicine and the College of Public Health. Dr. Going is assistant director of the Body Composition Research Laboratory and Director of Research Development for the Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition at the University of Arizona. His research interests include development of body composition and physical activity assessment methods and the effects of exercise and dietary interventions on body composition and functions related to disease prevention. Dr. Going was Co-Principal Investigator of the Bone Estrogen and Strength Training (BEST) study and PI of the Profile-based Internet-Linked Obesity Trial (PILOT). He is currently Co-PI of the Trial of Activity in Adolescent Girls (TAAG) study and is PI of the Adequate Calcium Trial (ACT). Both studies are examining strategies to improve health behaviors in adolescent girls and their impact on health outcomes. Dr. Going is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, and the International Society for Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. He has given numerous presentations in the United States and abroad on physical activity and body composition-related topics. Dr. Going recently served as an editor for the second edition of Human Body Composition, published by Human Kinetics, Inc. |
