Gwen Hyatt, MS, founded DSWFitness (Desert Southwest Fitness, Inc.) in 1980 to provide continuing education for fitness, health, rehabilitation and clinical professionals. With a double master’s degree in exercise science and gerontology, Gwen is highly respected for her work with exercise in aging and special populations. She has authored 14 correspondence courses and presented at more than 20 IDEA conventions. Students in 50 states and 48 countries have registered for courses published by DSWFitness.
Gwen is a former faculty member at Bemidji State University and the University of Arizona. She has been the recipient of the 2005 ACE Fitness Educator of the Year Award, the Southern Arizona Small Business Award for Excellence as a Woman-Owned Business, the Utah Fitness Instructors Association Leadership Award and the Arthur Anderson Small Business Award.
To celebrate turning 50, Gwen participated in her first century cycling event and has since completed eleven centuries and six half plus centuries, placing platinum in her last event. At the age of 55, Gwen decided to jump into multisport competitions and completed her first triathlon. In the past year she has competed in six triathlons, finishing no lower than second place in her age group.
For over twenty-five years, Gwen has been an industry educator and role model and has served the industry with integrity, professionalism and passion.
